What prospective students are looking for in a college...
Skills for the real world
Five words used in the Bromley College proposition that really resonated with the students we spoke to. Universally approved, ‘skills for the real world’ was exactly what the students wanted regardless of their area of study.
Shape the future
“We are the future” and “Young people can make a change in the world given the opportunity” were just two quotes from the students that reflected the wants and needs to realise dreams and aspirations for the students — not just as individuals but within the local and wider community.
Fun and excitement
The students really value the opportunity to enjoy their education and have fun. The excitement of new experiences and taking them out of their previously established routines is valued greatly.
A big part of making the choice to go to college is influenced by students’ existing friends. That said, making new friends and growing into new social circles is a real advantage college has over sixth form colleges. Events on campus are really high on the list of wants, in addition to a busy and vibrant local area.
Help after college
Securing employment or further education after college is a real concern for the students. They are looking for a college that will see them through this phase of transition once they gain their qualifications, through advice or connections.
The right course is often hard for a school leaver to choose. Practical courses with good employer links offer a clear path and this seems very popular to students from the surrounding areas.
